Infants Ages: 6 months – 2 years old
There are up to ten infants cared for at any given time. The Infant Curriculum is based on the principle that children learn best through direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, events, and ideas. Caregivers maintain an overall routine as consistently as possible while flexing it to accommodate individual children’s natural rhythms and temperaments. The Infant classroom is safe, flexible, and child oriented.
Toddlers Ages: 19 months - 3 years
Up to twelve toddlers may be enrolled in this program. During this active learning process, toddlers are encouraged to discover the world around them by exploring and playing (“active participatory learning”). Guided by practical theories of child development, our caregivers attempt to see things from the child’s point of view, encourage rather than inhibit children’s efforts and communications, take cues from children rather than impose their own ideas, and assume a problem-solving approach to children’s interpersonal conflicts rather than punish children or solve their problems for them.
Preschool Ages: 4 - 5 years old
We have as many as thirteen children in our preschool program. We use a variety of preschool key experiences that allow a child to assess a situation and make independent choices. The center has an open classroom setting, which incorporates different areas that include: library, blocks, music, house corner, science, art, and computers. While learning in these content areas prepares children for later schooling, High/Scope takes the learning process beyond traditional academic subjects by applying methods that promote independence, curiosity, decision-making, cooperation, persistence, creativity, and problem solving in young children.
